Welcome to VIPKID Adventures!

I am so glad that you are here and that I can share information with you that may help guide you in your future trip to China! I can't wait to share all of the good, bad, and amazing experiences! We learned so much and made our share of mistakes in planning and traveling on our own. I hope that this blog can help my fellow VIPKID teachers and make you feel more comfortable with your travels.

My VIPKID Journey started in January 2017 when I saw a post on a Dave Ramsey Facebook group. I immediately called my best friend Kristen and while I was extremely hesitant, she jumped right in! When I saw that she had a good experience getting hired I knew that this could be the job for me. I haven't looked back since then. VIPKID changed my life *insert eye roll* but really! We have paid off debt. I am contributing to our household income without needing daycare for our child. And I became a morning person... Who knew?! I have grown to love my students and their families and that led to Kristen and I planning a trip for September 2017.

We decided to travel to Beijing and Shanghai as those were the areas where most of our students were concentrated. As well as Xian having a major landmark that we'd only dreamed about seeing. Our trip was 11 days long with 5 days in Beijing, 2 days in Xian, and 3 days in Shanghai (1 full day in the air.)

I made a solo train trip to Nanjing for the day but it was very last minute and unplanned! The things we do for our students...

When we decided to skip the group tour and do this on our own, I was terrified! While we had our moments, traveling self guided in China wasn't nearly as hard as I thought it would be.

Why did we choose to go self-guided instead of pay for one of those "all inclusive" $600 group tours from Groupon?

The group tours just weren't for us because meeting our students balanced with time to see landmarks was the most important thing! Group tours can still be a great option but make sure you know what you are paying for and what you would like to get out of your trip.

If you are planning a trip to China this year tell me in the comments when you plan to go. You are going to have an amazing trip! I cannot wait to go back!
